Support from players is bringing sunshine into the lives of young patients and their families
Alfie the pug brings smiles to the young patients he visits in hospital.
He and owner Suzy volunteer with Pets As Therapy, visiting a children’s hospital in Manchester twice a month, bringing sunshine into the lives of young patients and their families.
Suzy has been volunteering with Pets As Therapy for eight years and Alfie is one of thousands of animals across the country helping to improve health and well-being in hospitals, care homes, hospices and schools.
Money raised by Postcode Lottery players is allowing the charity to expand and do more.
Five-year-old Axl has been in hospital for almost four months, receiving treatment and awaiting an operation for an abnormal curve of the spine. It's a lot for a young boy to deal with and his mum Rebbeca knows how much he's missing being back home with his pets.
Rebbeca said: "Axl was so excited and over the moon seeing Alfie. He loves all animals - big or small - so the visit meant a lot to us.”
