Revolutionising dementia diagnosis

In May, the biggest-ever funding award in People's Postcode Lottery history was announced.

Two major dementia charities collaborating on a ground-breaking project to revolutionise early dementia diagnosis in the UK jointly received £5 million, thanks to funds raised by players.

Alzheimer’s Society and Alzheimer’s Research UK have partnered to deliver the ambitious project, which aims to bring a simple blood test for the diagnosis of dementia into the NHS.

A simple and inexpensive NHS blood test to detect early-stage Alzheimer’s disease will mean earlier and more accurate diagnosis, giving people a greater chance of benefiting from appropriate support and treatments.

With one in three people born today expected to receive a dementia diagnosis in their lifetime, and breakthrough new drugs on the horizon, simple and early diagnosis is the missing piece of the puzzle. Thanks to money raised by our players, this project will transform the future of dementia diagnosis.
